Sustainability in Fashion

Fabrics made from environmentally friendly and natural ethically sound sources are so in.

Most people don’t know this but- I LOVE CLOTHES. I love shopping. I love cute dresses and putting outfits together. I’d cut to pieces all my Seventeen magazines and Alloy catalogs to make outfits I dreamed of buying with my 13 year old coin piggy bank. I loved Polyvore in the 2010’s piecing together outfits from websites all over before Pinterest was born. Matching accesories and pieces together in different styes and vibes has been my calling.

However, I marvel and sometimes look in disgust at the mountains of retail merchandise at any given store. I wanted to be as mindful as possible as well as budget friendly in styling myself. I don’t want fast fashion cheap labor made pieces that will inevitably end up pilling, ripping at the seams, and losing color within the same season I bought it in. How to avoid this? Well… took me a while to realize but that $20 pair of jeans from the mall store with 100 trendy pieces every other month were NOT quality.

Cheap fashion is really far from that, it may be cheap in terms of the financial cost, but very expensive when it comes to the environment and the cost of human life. – Sass Brown, author of “ECO Fashion

I had to learn the most expensive way that cheap quantity was could not beat expensive quality. Meaning, I could have 7-8 pairs of cheap jeans that would shrink, rip, fade, and make me feel that everlasting “I have nothing to wear” feeling. It was actually not that I had nothing to wear, I just had nothing in my mind that was “good” or “quality” or “fitting” to wear. I learned I would rather get a quality pair of jeans for a higher price but those jeans would keep their shape and fit. They would fit my body beautifully and would last me longer than the 2for$xx “sale” that is always BOGO for what ends up being 25%… everytime. That’s not a sale.

My mission is to educate you and also myself more about sustainability and help make fashionable choices that will elevate our style and hopefully the masses that thirfiting and investing into your wardrobe can be a great way to be sustainable in your everyday life. I mean… I don’t judge but who doesn’t wear clothes? How can it not be the easiest way to start?
